Common Technical Issues: SUZUKI RM-Z450

BRAND: SUZUKI
MODEL: RM-Z450
YEARS: 05-07
CATEGORY: DIRT BIKE

TECHNICAL ISSUE DETAILS
The RM-Z450 ignition system uses a source coil to provide power for the spark (it charges the capacitor inside the CDI), a power coil to provide power for the electronic circuits inside the CDI, and a pickup coil that triggers the CDI for ignition timing. There is also a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the carburetor to allow the CDI to change timing depending on engine load. The ESL405 stator includes Source Coil, Power Coil, Pickup Coil and also the Lighting Coil. If the bike does not start after installation of the ESL405: swap the ORANGE and BLACK/WHITE wire in the connector. This will make the bike start right up. NOTE: We have had reports about the engine hesitating between approx 4,000 and 5,000rpm when using the ESL405 replacement stator on 05-07 models RM-Z450. We have found this problem on SOME 05-07 models. And it does not seem to occur at all on '06 and later machines. Cause seems to be that Suzuki changed the CDI circuit during the 05-07 initial production. We have no fix for the affected models. However if your machine is a later model you should have no problems.
